Questions?

Is an Executive MBA right for me?

The Executive MBA is a great option for candidates who want to continue to work while obtaining their degree. Executive MBA and Full-Time MBA programs offer the same MBA degree, and the same rigorous course requirements. While there are no minimum years of work experience required, we look for a rich baseline of real-world management experience — whether of people, processes, budgets or projects. You will bring your unique background to your learning team and cluster, thereby helping to enrich the classroom conversation. You will also bring what you learn back to work with you on Monday.

What access to community will I have?

Columbia Business School has the largest Executive MBA program in the country and an incredibly supportive community. The people you meet will be part of your personal team for life, cheering you on through challenges and accomplishments. At the start of your MBA program, you are assigned to a cluster of 40 to 70 students, and within your cluster, a smaller learning team of five or six students representing a variety of backgrounds. Together, you tackle assignments with your diverse team, which brings unique perspectives and approaches to your work. You are not only expanding your functional knowledge, but also forging long-lasting professional and personal relationships.

What are the application requirements?

As part of your online application to the Executive MBA, you will need to provide:

• Transcripts from each college and university attended as a registered student in a degree-granting program

• Professional résumé

• Three essays

• Two letters of professional recommendation

• Scores from the Executive Assessment, GMAT, or GRE

• A signed sponsorship letter from an authorized representative of your organization briefly stating their support of your time participation in the program. Note: Employer sponsorship is required for all programs except EMBA-NY Saturday.

Once your online application is complete and under review, you may be contacted by a member of the Admissions Office to schedule an on-campus interview.

Not sure if EMBA is a good fit yet? We invite you to join us for an EMBA event, visit us on campus during office hours, or send us your professional résumé so we can help assess your readiness for the EMBA program.

What are the EMBA program options?

Columbia Business School offers a variety of schedules that allow you to engage in a rich MBA experience while working full-time.

As an Executive MBA student, you will spend the same number of hours in the classroom as our full-time students, taking the same core courses and a large array of electives, simply on a schedule that allows you to continue the momentum in your career. The programs we offer are rigorous, but the return on learning will be immediate.

During Core semesters, you will take classes on the schedule outlined below, depending on your cohort. After the core, students have the flexibility to take electives on a Saturday format, a Friday/Saturday format, and in Global Elective Block Weeks.

Executive MBA-NY: Saturday - 6 terms. Most Saturdays during the core. Starting in May.

Executive MBA-NY: Friday/Saturday - 5 terms. Every other Friday and Saturday during the core. Starting in August.

What is the next step?

If you are thinking about applying to Columbia Business School, we encourage you to sign up for an upcoming information session. It is the best way to get a feel for the Columbia Business School community and meet the people who could be part of your life both during the program and when you are part of our vast global alumni network.

What is the workload like?

The work is intense, but very rewarding. The length of time required to complete assignments will depend on your level of expertise or facility in each subject area. You might find you are spending less time in certain areas where your peers are spending more, and vice versa. The Learning Team structure will give you immediate access to a close network of peers who can help support you in their areas of specialization. Likewise, you will have the opportunity to leverage your expertise to help your classmates. The skill set and business experience of each team member is intentionally diverse to allow for maximum support during your learning journey.
